We can begin training students as young as 5-years-old. Our in school program is designed to meet kids where they are. Our after school and Saturday invitational programs are for children eager to take their practice to the next level. Before beginning any program, the student is evaluated by an instructor on their ability to perform simple kicks and punches. This allows the child to get a feel for what karate is about. Afterwards, the instructor will talk with the child and parents to find out how the child felt and what the parents think. If everyone is comfortable, the student attends Karate classes for one month and then is re-evaluated to see if the child and parents want to continue.
How much does it cost?
Our programs vary in price. We offer a flat rate to schools for our in-school program for the full or half year. We are willing to work with grant programs to see if we can get GKA at your school at low cost or no cost to you.
What do I need to get started to host a class?
An open space! We have our own mats and can come to you to turn your studio, gym or classroom space into a Dojo.
What style of martial arts do you teach?
Our focus is Shotokan Karate which is a Japanese form of martial arts. Shotokan is one of the most efficient and direct martial art styles that can get a beginner to a level of skill in a short amount time. Along with Karate, the GKA method blends in elements of Judo, Jujitsu, meditation and yoga, along with other traditional practices. We take a contemporary approach to teach these traditional styles to enhance the range of mind-body-spirit tools that a student has to self regulate, defend and expand their character.
Am I too old to start martial arts?
Usually age is not a deterrent to starting martial arts. At Goshin Kai, we want you to succeed at your goals. You work at your own pace, set your own goals and we help you reach them. We recommend seeing your doctor before beginning any exercise program. Even if your doctor sets restrictions, it is possible for us to adjust our program so you can still enjoy the benefits of martial arts.
